Project Description
For Europe to be able to cope with increasing freight volumes it will be necessary to improve the utilisation of existing transport resources. This point is made in the Mid-Term Review of the 2001 Transport White Paper in which the expression “Co-modality” was coined to signify optimal use of all modes of transport singly and in combination.
The Freight Logistics Action Plan focuses on quality and efficiency for the movement of goods, as well as on ensuring that freight-related information travels easily between modes. These objectives can be reached primarily through e-Freight solutions aiding collaboration between all stakeholders involved in freight transport chains. e-Freight solutions will encompass legal, organisational and technical frameworks to enable transport operators, shippers/ freight forwarders, customs and other government administrations to seamlessly exchange information in order to improve the efficiency and quality of freight transport logistics.

Nautical Enterprise’s responsibilities in the Project
The main role of Nautical Enterprise in e-Freight is to lead the work stream on Setting co-modal transport networks and to collaborate with the Port of Cork in the B2B/ B2A Business Cases for Comodal transport for the Ireland, Britain and Mainland Europe Corridor. Nautical Enterprise will participate in tasks regarding legal requirements and will assist with the coordination of Business Cases.
